Dave White 'Americana' Exhibition 11 - 30 April 2011

Dave White 'Americana' Exhibition 11 - 30 April 2011

Début Art & The Coningsby Gallery are proud to announce the solo exhibition of Dave White’s latest collection of paintings: ‘Americana’ (see above for a snapshot). Inspired by American heritage and the spirit of the West, this body of work features oil paintings in White’s trademark expressive style.

Exploring iconic imagery of the Western Frontier, this exhibition highlights Dave White’s ability to capture dynamic scenes with his distinctive impasto style, while presenting a pioneering approach to documenting the legacy of this era.

The golden age of the Western movie era is encapsulated in Dave White’s series of Technicolour oil paintings. High energy scenes, dramatic tension and sweeping Western backdrops could be said to be White’s innovative interpretation of the classic film still. The cultural inspiration of this period is evident in the apocalyptic themes of battles and stand offs. The turbulence and explosive movements are animated and presented through chaotic brushstrokes and the continuous energy of an artist dedicated to his own battle with the canvas.

The exhibition will feature a series of new oils on canvas, works on paper and limited edition prints. A fully illustrated catalogue will also be available.

11 - 30 April 2011 The Coningsby Gallery 30 Tottenham Street London, W1T 4RJ Open weekdays 9am to 6pm and Saturday by appointment

A Rich Rice Brand Re-design

We are pleased to share packaging illustrations by artist Webb Creative for Oriente, a premium rice brand out of Portugal. Webb Creative was brought on by Firecactus Creative Director John-Paul Hunter who led the brand’s redesign. Inside the V-shaped illustration, which is actually two grains of rice coming together, are Webb’s illustrations. Each rice variant has a different scene, depicting the fifth-generation owners and moments from the business’s history. As Hunter shared with Design Week: “That illustration needed to work hard, we wanted people to see something different every time.” A further dive into the meaning of each illustration can be found on the back of the pack. You can check out details of the redesign and more of Webb Creative’s work here.

Steven Heller on Peter Grundy (AKA Grundini)

Steven Heller, a member of the Art Director Hall of Fame since 1996 and author, co-author and editor of over 200 books on design covered Grundini in his latest article for the Daily Heller. Describing Peter, Steven wrote: " [he is] an exemplar of the commedia dell’arte style of data visualization, a maestro of transforming statistics into pictorial passion plays. Icons are his meat, and they are seasoned with wit and humor, color and conviviality. They brighten up the stage, the page and the screen. They scroll with a certain rock and roll."
