Viktor Koen / SNF Cultural Center / Athens

News hero 326

Début’s own Viktor Koen, illustrator, designer, and fine artist, recently completed an on-site installation for an impressive cultural center combining the National Library of Greece, Greek National Opera and Stavros Niarchos park, designed by noted Italian architect Renzo Piano. The installation houses Bréal’s Marathon Silver Cup, presented to the first marathon winner at the inaugural Modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896.   In Viktor’s words: “As the cup landed in its permanent SNFCC home, it became clear that we needed a comprehensive solution to document the cup’s history for standing readers, designed intriguingly enough to keep them reading to the end. Other than archival images accompanying every angle of the story and an editorial inspired layout, a long dynamic illustration occupying the full length of the frieze seemed to be just the visual device to wrap everything together and turn the connection between reader and text into an experience. The rest is history.”   See photos above, and read the full history here
